Maratha Kranti Morcha (March) are probably the largest Silent protests by the single community in Independent India. Marathas form nearly 35% of Total maharashtra's population. Every community has constitutional right to hold protests, marches etc. if they have some demands. In case of these Maratha marches, they are held in almost Every District of Maharashtra, one after the other, with the average of minimum 7-8 lakhs people each district. Reasons for these Marches - 1.Rape and the Brutal Murder of a 14 year old girl - In Ahmednagar district of maharashtra, a girl from maratha community was raped and then tortured to death (murdered) [as brutally as or perhaps more than Nirbhaya case of Delhi] by 3-4 drunk people ( I won't mention their caste since Criminals don't have any caste or religion).
The first demand of Maratha marches is "To hang them till death". 2.Maratha Reservation - Marathas are largest community in maharashtra. Most politicians, past chief ministers, most factory owners, most educational institution owners are from this community but they are only 5% to the total Maratha population. From the remaining 95% Marathas, 36% are land-less, 8% are below poverty line. Those having farms, averages only 1-2 acres per Family. So, once the land was 15 acres per family in Agrarian Economy came to 2 acres per family in Service based economy today (crop totally based on Rain), it caused many Farmers' suicides as there was either no crop or very low rate to the crop. Most of them are from Maratha Community. Also they don't have enough representation in govt jobs. So, many people from this community can't even or just fulfill basic needs as it leaves Education, Jobs quite away ! That's why once Ruler marathas are in crisis if you consider a caste as a whole. That's why Marathas need reservation to come in flow with others in this new Economic system. Hence, the Second demand is for Reservation. 3.Make changes to Atrocities Act (1989) To Avoid the Misuse - Atrocities act has main purpose to protect people of SC/ST community. But this act is said to be misused than used for proper purpose. People from these communities give threats to so called Upper castes' people, demanding money (extortion) or otherwise ask them to face the atrocity. The figures and reports in recent years show that the actual Conviction rate in these cases is Very Low (only 5-8%). Though rate is low, the time,money and efforts wasted are too much for the upper caste people, though they are innocent. Hence , these Maratha marches' Third demand is to make some changes in this act so that this misuse should not happen. If this act continues, perhaps the rift between Backward class people and so called upper caste people will get widened, instead of shortening. So by discussing with all parts of the society, government can come to the Solution. All these morchas (marches) are totally silent in nature, with no particular leader of march, totally disciplined even the police also praises each march, there is large participation of women and girls. Hence an ideal example for anyone for future protests. Though people try to give Political colors to these marches, they are purely for a Social cause. No party can gather 10 lakhs people in each district without spending money i.e. people are self-motivated. So guessing of some political parties behind these marches may be a foolish thing. Since ALL party leaders are purposefully kept away from the marches by the people.
